Selsun contains selenium disulphide which is active against a specific type of fungus called dermatophytes. It also decreases the production of cells in the first layer of the skin, as well as the amount of naturally oil (sebum), which is produced by sebaceous glands in the skin.
Seborrhoeic dermatitis is an inflammatory flaky skin, which affects the scalp. The inflammation is caused by the reaction of the body on the presense of a specific type of fungus and on products that breaks down oil. Selenium disulphide kills fungus that causes this inflammation and controlls itching and flaking in connection with dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis on the scalp.
Independent tests have shown that Selsun is peculiarly effective compared to the competitors.
